Hyundai Google Glass App

BY: Jordan Youngblood
Hyundai is introducing a new wearable technology in their 2015 Genesis sedan. The car will be able to connect to Google Glass and other wearable technologies as well. Numerous people believe that the new wearable technology connected to the 2015 Genesis will increase the amount of distractions that drivers will face. However, car companies and other people strongly believe that this new technology enhancement will decrease the amount of distractions the driver has. They argue that utilizing wearable technology will decrease distractions due to the fact that the driver can keep their eye on the road while using their wearable technology device.
In correlation to information systems, it will increase the amount of information that the driver can receive while driving. This new device in the car can inform drivers about speed, navigation directions, traffic, and speed limits. Hyundai is not the only automaker who is working on using wearable devices because apparently Nissan is currently working on it as well. This is a key advancement in technology and will be very influential on the future car models to come.

  1. I think this could certainly be revolutionary but it leaves room for questions. Like you stated, it is scary to think about the distractions of a screen in front of your eye while you drive but on the other hand you will never truly have to take your eyes of the road in a way. Things like this make me feel hopeful regarding technological advancements in the future but they also make me wary. When will technology take over our every day moves? When will google glass turn into google driver and then into google flyer? Who knows when these advancements will make our own human intuition and activity unnecessary. There is a fine line between convenience and autonomy and I hope we as a global society tread that line lightly.

  3. I see both the ups and downs of this innovation. The upside is that drivers will be provided with up to date and helpful information while they are driving. The bad news is that I believe people unfortunately will be more distracted. The thought of little icons popping up and sounds in the background telling you different things could distract some of the most focused drivers. Personally, I think they should just look into altering the Google glass just a little bit more so that these potential distractions can be lessened.

  4. Wow, it is impressive that as new as Google Glass is, it has already been introduced to consumers through partnerships with different markets. I am excited about these sort of advancements in technology and I look forward to seeing how the automotive industry reacts to this innovation.

  5. I personally think this gives Google too much control over your car or what you see inside your car, but it is extremely innovative. This is just another step towards vehicular grid systems

  6. Google glass being used in Hyundai seems to be the stepping point into cars that control themselves.

  7. This is another great advancement for the automotive industry and technology. I believe that the more technology becomes integrated into our lives, the less of a distraction they will become.

  9. The fusion between google's technology and other companies products can (and probably will) become a future trend. With the many possibilities for the applications of google glass, it would by wise for companies to take notes from Hyundai. This is a very interesting and compelling topic.

  10. This is a great technology. The ability to give the driver more information while drying is a great technology. Giving driving more information will cut down on accidents as well as driving and texting. This will eventually spread to all car companies and will become very popular.

  11. I think this is very innovative for Hyundai, especially as a company that needs to market themselves a little better against strict competition. Having Google Glass in cars will be very helpful, but I also am a little nervous about the ability of the technology to take over and do what it wants, putting us in potential danger.

  12. The advancement of this technology is a two-way street, yes the glass can provide crucial road information, at the same time it is yet more information to distract drivers from the task at hand. I believe that use a Google Glass, until research shows otherwise, should be treated the same as texting; unacceptable on the roads.

  13. All of this "Google Glass" technology sounds cool, but in all reality, I think people are more fascinated with the idea and concept, but not with actually purchasing and using the technology. Our culture is obsessed with personal appearance and perception, and these glasses look goofy to wear, and you look nerdy.

  14. Contrary to the last comment, I believe the innovation itself will contain a steady market. People are interested in using such technology while driving. You are correct that our culture is obsessed with personal appearance and perception, but think about the ways in which this will make traveling more efficient, and receiving directions clearer. Yes they might not be appealing to you, but if this were to help save you time and gas purchasing something one time would be worth it, and I think people see that value.

  15. This shows that Hyundai is really trying to innovate. Lately, they have been giving the competition a run for its money, especially with the luxury Genesis. Making it connect with Glass is a good strategic move because owners will seek the car maker ahead of other luxury makes that are behind the curve technologically.
