Monday April 14, 2014 - End of Reconstruction beginning of Jim Crow

The Southern States worked hard after the Civil War to reject the Reconstruction Acts passed by Congress and added to the Constitution. It took over 40 years but they succeed by the early 1900's to enact laws and use other tools to put Black Men "back in their place".

  1. Great topic to discuss today. This is part of African American history which everyone should know about. All respect and honor goes out to my ancestors for paving the way for me and everyone else. I will never forget this and will pass this on to the next generation.

  2. I really enjoyed this post!!! I agree with Isaiah more African Americans especially the males should be better educated on our history and everything the was sacrificed for us to be in the position we are in today. If we don't continue to learn and pass our history down to our children and others around us, the fight an struggle our ancestors went through would be almost for nothing because we would eventually move so far away from what they worked hard to accomplish that it would be almost a slap in the face to them...

  3. I agree with Isaiah and Elijah as well, this topic I believe really helped put things in perspective in regards to being a black man in society and the modern day mistreatment of African Americans.

  5. I really value the literary talents of the author. I think he did a great insight into what was driving things at that time.

  6. This was a great topic to discuss. Racial disparities still exist and it is something that is always belittled. Recently, one of my schoolmates was shot and killed by a white man when she knocked on his door to get help. She was in a car accident and went to his nearby house. Michigan does not have a stand your ground law; however, things would have definitely turned out different if the shooter was black. Many cases similar to this have happened in recent years. All cases seem to point to an unspoken "what if he/she was black/white" code when determining the verdict. Florida is definitely not the move for a young, black teenager.

  7. Great useful information and you should be mandatory in all schools at some point. It's scary because the way things are going, we may have to be the ones to teach the next generation about this.
